For cleaner Europe. EAFAs aluminium recycling programme.

The campaign “Aluminium Closures – Turn 360º” is supposed promote the idea of recycling among producers and users of metal packaging.

According to European Aluminium Foil Association e.V. (EAFA) aluminium packaging can be recycled over and over without any loss of quality. The organisation encourages re-use of recycled metal closures applied for wine, spirits , water or oils, since currently only 40% of them get their second life.

EAFA enumerates many advantages of their usage, for instance they can be recycled both individually or along with the used glass. “In combined recycling process we can save up to 95% of energy and greenhouse gas emission that is required in the primary production of aluminium packaging” – underlined Stefan Glim, managing director of EAFA. The problem is, however, the inconsistency in national aluminium recycling systems in EU member states. Yet, according to EAFA it is going to change, since the metal closures can be recycled endlessly without the risk of losing the quality, owing to the use of electromagnetic sorting system for packaging collection. For better understanding of the necessity to increase aluminium recycling, EAFA started a campaing: “Aluminium Closures – Turn 360º,” which educates aluminium packaging producers about numerous advantages of using aluminium closures.
