Cardboard is growing stronger. ECMA in Poland

Not later than spring this year will the Polish department of European Carton Makers Association (ECMA) start its activity. The decision to establish it was taken by the ECMA Poland founders on 28th November 2013 in Pruszków.

"I am pleased that our initiative has met with such a wide response in the industry and we were able to gather in one place the representatives of the companies that serve more than three quarters of carton packaging market in Poland. This suggests that there are important issues on which we can talk together and solving them will be beneficial for us and our customers", said Olaf Kacperski, managing director of MMP Neupack Poland, who together with Marek Roszak (Managing Director Edelmann Poland) initiated the establishment of ECMA in Poland.

The idea of its creation was raised during the Packaging Innovations 2013 trade fair in Warsaw, where representatives of ECMA met with several producers operating in Poland. This initiated the gathering in November 2013 where the authorities of more than 30 companies (both international and with Polish capital) established the Founding Committee responsible for the registration of the new organization. ECMA Poland is expected to begin operating in the spring of 2014 and its main objective is to strengthen cardboard packaging industry in Poland and enable the implementation of solutions practiced in other countries on the local ground. "ECMA is keen to have its department on Polish market, due to its increasing importance in recent years and the presence of European multinational carton converters", explains Roger Krabbendam, communications manager at ECMA: "Still we want to reach to local companies as well, because membership in ECMA Poland means for them an exchange of information with foreign market, especially in the context of the changing European regulations that affect their businesses. United under the wings of a strong organization they are also more likely to advocate their interests in the European Union".

ECMA, based in Hague in the Netherlands, represents approximately 500 cardboard manufacturers of almost all countries included in the European Economic Area who are responsible for about 70 percent total European production of cardboard packaging.
